    Education

    Doug’s academic journey began at Bucknell University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics. Five years into his career he earned a one year fellowship to attend Cornell University and earn his MS degree in Operations Research. During that year he met, proposed, and married Barb, the love of his life.

    Career Highlights

    Doug’s professional career has been a journey through the tech world. His work history includes:

    1. Bell System: Doug started his career with the Bell System at the Western Electric Reading Works as a quality control engineer.
    2. Texas Instruments: During his time there he managed a number of groups. One highlight was the creation of the Texas Instruments Graphics Architecture which was widely adapted for many graphic accelerators for PC displays. It won a Byte Magazine Annual Top 10 Award in January, 1990. In addition, Doug was awarded a software patent for aspects of this technology.
    3. Harris RF Communications: Doug’s contributions to Harris RF Communications included managing the development of the Falcon series of handheld multiband military radios which were widely adapted by the US military as well as the military of many other countries around the world. He was awarded two patents while at Harris RF Communications.
    4. Auragen Communications: Doug learned web applications programming at Auragen Communications.
    5. Better World Web Solutions: After leaving Auragen Communications, Doug founded Better World Web Solutions. He developed many web sites for customers including Cornell University.
    6. VP – Director of Applications Development: Doug finished his career on a high note, serving as the Vice President and Director of Applications Development at Entre Computer Systems where he led the development of many web applications.

    Writing Journey

    After retirement, Doug embarked on a new journey to craft novels. Doug had decided on the title “Ironic Destiny” many years ago. With the arrival of tools including Chat GBT and Claude, he has been able to develop his first novel, “Ironic Destiny: The Journey Begins”. It is a romantic adventure novel with two your people, Alex and Grace, who take off on a one year sailing adventure upon graduation from Cornell University. Initially just friends, their journey involves meeting many interesting people, some danger, and both personal growth and romantic growth.  

    While drafting this novel, Doug really explored how Chat GBT and Claude.ai can assist in writing a novel. As a result he learned that he was better equipped to write a technical book on these tools applied to novel writing. Therefore he wrote “How to Use ChatGPT and Claude to Write Novels for Fun and Profit”.
